Master educator and naturalist Steve Johnson leads this course for teachers on connecting CO's life zones to changes in elevation in RMNP.
About this Event

Build the state academic standards into your curriculum with a visit to the mountains. Looking closely at the Colorado life zones from the Plains to the Alpine life zone (5,000’ -14,000’) we see the equivalent of traveling 2,000+ miles north in latitude. Geography, Writing/Communication, Health/PE, Math, and Science teachers can find several fascinating connections to their observations at different elevations. Create your connection to state standards and enjoy a day in the Colorado mountains!

Who: Grade school teachers, home school educators, and instructional coaches. This is a Level II course. Expect short-distance walks throughout the day, primarily on level terrain.

When: Tuesday, June 18, from 8:00am - 4:00pm

Where: Meet at the Fall River Visitor Center, 3450 Fall River Road, Estes Park, CO and travel together into Rocky Mountain National Park

What to bring:

  • Please be prepared to spend a full day outdoors in RMNP, including time above 10,000 ft.
  • RMC’s Field Institute 10 Essentials,
  • Bag lunch,
  • Copy of the CO academic standards you'd like to reflect on (optional but recommended),
  • Camera and note-taking materials(optional)

About your Instructor: Steve Johnson first moved to Estes Park in 1972 and has been exploring the area for 45 years.
