ANTHROPOLOGY COLLOQUIUM SERIESIntroduction to A Place of Medicine with Loreisa Lepine & Drew Elves
Loreisa Lepine: UVic’s Inaugural Land Steward
Drew Elves: UVic’s Eco-Cultural Steward
Monday, September 8th, 2025
11:30 am – 12:45 pm
Courtyard of the David Turpin Building
Join UVIC’s Inaugural Land Steward Loreisa Lepine and Eco-Cultural Steward Drew Elves as they share their experiences and knowledge through their creation of A Place of Medicine, which is one of four Indigenous-led restoration sites on campus (the other three are the marsh in front of First Peoples House, the forest behind the new Indigenous Law Centre, and the meadow behind David Turpin Building called “Reciprocity Meadow”).
This colloquium opens the 2025-26 Department of Anthropology Colloquia with an intention to begin the new academic year with an experiential learning opportunity to move beyond relying solely on our institutional land acknowledgement, and to invite students, staff, and faculty from across campus to nurture their own personal engagement with the land while studying and working through the university.
Please wear weather appropriate clothing as we will be outside for this colloquium. Please be ready to begin our session with Loreisa and Drew at 11:30 am in the courtyard of the David Turpin Building.
EVERYONE WELCOME
