Come ready to collaborate and make two risograph printed zines with your fellow riso students! Please bring two images to work from—these can be photographs, paintings, drawings, scans, or digitally made artwork. The most important thing is that you arrive with imagery you’re excited to use.Digital files are strongly encouraged and should ideally be JPEGs, PNGs, or Photoshop files. If you’re unsure how to prep your files, no worries—we can help during class, or you’re welcome to email [email protected] ahead of time for assistance.
So, what’s a risograph?
A risograph is a stencil-based printing process that blends the look of screen printing with the speed of a copier. Each color is printed one layer at a time, which creates bold textures, vibrant overlaps, and happy accidents you can’t quite get any other way. It’s playful, unpredictable, and perfect for experimentation.
And what’s a zine?
Zines are small, self-published booklets made for sharing ideas, images, and stories without rules or pressure. They’re fast, accessible, and collaborative by nature—making them a great format for trying new things and working together.
During the workshop, we’ll print a collaborative zine using all four risograph colors, and you’ll leave with four copies of each finished zine to share, trade, or keep. No prior risograph or zine experience is needed—This is our beginner friendly class but really is for anyone even with experience. We have some more advanced riso classes listed as well if you're in love already.
