About this Event
Curious about freediving, but not sure where to start?
This introductory freediving workshop is a calm, beginner-friendly experience designed to help you build awareness of your breath, relax your body, and feel more comfortable in and around the water — all in a safe, dry, classroom setting.
You don’t need any prior experience. This workshop is not about pushing limits or seeing how long you can hold your breath. Instead, it focuses on the foundational skills that make freediving feel natural, controlled, and enjoyable.
What You’ll Learn & Experience
- What freediving is (and what it isn’t)
- How your body responds to breathing and breath-holding
- Why the urge to breathe happens
- Relaxation techniques used in freediving
- Breath awareness and body awareness practices
- Optional, self-paced dry breath-hold cycles
- Recovery breathing and core safety principles
You’ll be guided step-by-step through a series of relaxation and breath-awareness exercises designed to help you feel calm, present, and in control.

About Freedive Renaissance
Freedive Renaissance is on a mission to help build a stronger, more visible community of Black freedivers and underwater explorers here in the local area and beyond.
Our goal is to make freediving feel more accessible, welcoming, and approachable for people who may have always been curious about the water but never saw a clear pathway into the sport.
Through beginner-friendly education and community-centered experiences, Freedive Renaissance hopes to help more people develop a deeper connection with the underwater world.
This workshop is one small step toward that larger vision.
