About this Event
Interwoven: Fairy and Gnome Gardens- Recharge Through Play
Special Operations Forces families are invited to join The Station Foundation for a morning of imaginative play and creativity at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens.   Each child (ages 4-8) will build a fairy or gnome home of their own to remind families how refreshing it feels to play.  In our fast-paced lives, work, family obligations, and daily tasks demand our attention, and play often takes a backseat. We become so consumed by responsibilities that we forget the carefree fun we once enjoyed as children. Playing outside is essential for children’s physical, emotional and spiritual well being. Teaching your child how to appreciate nature through playtime outdoors is invaluable.  Sharing and enjoying time outside as a family is a simple and easy way to strengthen your relationship, build connection, and practice gratitude.
But play isn't just for kids—it’s a powerful tool for adults too. Whether you're sharing a playful moment with your partner, spending time with your children, or bringing creativity to the workplace, play has a profound impact on your health, relationships, and overall well-being. Research shows that playfulness not only enhances productivity but also improves physical and emotional health. It helps you stay sharp, feel more relaxed, and maintain a positive outlook—especially during tough times.  Reconnect with your playful side and reap the many benefits play can bring.
After completing the art project, families are invited to stay, play, and cool off in the splash fountains at the WOW Children’s Garden.
