INTERTIDAL : An interdisciplinary art show

~20% of ticket sales will be donated to Distro Disco (a mobile free store redistributing material resources in the DTES). The remainder will go towards organizing future events as we work to create low barrier opportunities for Vancouver artists ~

What to expect:

DOORS - 6:00PM - Come view the art, browse our merch table, grab a drink!

SHOW - 7:30-8:30PM - Sit down for short readings by Saltwater Writers Collective. 

The gallery will be open after the show until around 9:30PM 

About the show:

An intertidal space is one where two worlds meet.

For this show, visual artists were paired with a writer from Saltwater Writers Collective. Over the last couple of months, each maker created an original piece informed from the other's work. 

Artists were asked to collaborate, develop work alongside each other, and consider what could grow from the rich space where two mediums -visual and literary arts- meet. 

On August 7th, visual artwork will be displayed in a gallery, alongside readings and performances from the writers, marking Brushing Hands Collective’s 4th Show. Merch from artists will be for sale as well as zines by Saltwater writers collective.  

Come support local arts!!!

Tickets will be available at the door and no one will be turned away for lack of funds 

ABOUT SALTWATER WRITERS COLLECTIVE

The Saltwater Writer’s Collective is a literary collective of the Canadian West Coast, founded in Vancouver BC, expanding Sea to Sky. Through events and publications, our members work to distill a literary style from the vast coastline that connects and reflects our region. The Saltwater ethos is the harmony of purity and imperfection, rawness and refinement, insistence and surrender. We honour the human spirit, prioritize feeling over form, and hold vulnerability as a high virtue.

We are not content to accept narratives that our city is sleepy, our circles closed off. With Saltwater events such as Write, Jazz, Sweat and collaborations with local artists and collectives, we highlight the vibrancy of our larger artistic community and fuel a growing hunger for connection and creation.

ABOUT BRUSHING HANDS COLLECTIVE

Brushing Hands Collective hosts community art events that focus on bringing artists together across visual and literary disciplines.

Within our events, we are interested in fostering connection, uplifting emerging voices, and inspiring artists. We hope to be a catalyst for artists across all mediums – from visual arts to performance or writing – to meet, collaborate, and uplift one-another.

In creating low-barrier art events, we aim to break down the difficult process of sharing art in an isolating city, and instead create spaces for artists to come together that are fun, nourishing and inspiring. We hope our open-hearted approach of sharing art will breathe culture and joy into our city.

Our past events have included multi-disciplinary art shows: BODY, and RECLAIMED, as well as our 2026 collaboration with Fates Festival where we presented FATES: a Multi-Disciplinary Art Show, and Stamp Everything!: a pay-what-you-can collaborative stamp making workshop.
