On this guided walk on International Women’s Day, hear stories of Manchester women of crime in the Long 19th Century.
About this Event

Manchester’s females carried out M**der, violence, suicide, theft, sex work, fraud, deception, infanticide, disruption, protest, disorder, arson, bombings.

We look at their crimes, their punishments, the social context, and public opinion.

Who is the walk for?

The stories are about women but the walk is not exclusively for women – all adults are welcome.

However, guests may find some stories upsetting and the content, as indicated above, means that this walk isn’t suitable for children.

Where and when?

Meet outside One New Bailey building. 1 New Bailey Street, Salford M3 5JL

The walk starts at 11am but I’ll be there from 10.45am to meet you.

The walk will last about 75 - 90 minutes.

Practical details

Our walks go ahead in all weathers, and this one takes place entirely outside, so please dress for the weather and a walk around town.

Please note that the only dogs allowed are assistance dogs.

About your guide

Philippa qualified as a Green Badge guide for Manchester after passing the exams of the Institute of Tourist Guiding in 2009, becoming an Associate of that institute. She has guided guests in the city ever since, including popular monthly netwalks. Philippa has a particular interest in highlighting the stories of Manchester Women.
