Whirimako Black. While the song laments the shame and
suffering caused by being disconnected to our language, the
last two lines (the title of this lecture) sing to a more hopeful
future.
This lecture draws its inspiration from the song and recounts
the experiences of four generations of my family from
language disconnection to language reclamation – from a
state of language development disruption to the much richer
lives we now have because our mother tongue is flourishing
again within our family.
This lecture is also available to watch online - a Zoom link will be sent to all registered attendees prior to the lecture start time.
