About the event
Ready to deepen your skills and tackle more complex ceramic projects?
Join us at Unity Community Centre for a 6-week Intermediate Pottery class! This course is designed for students who have completed a beginner course (like the one above) or who have a solid foundation in wheel-throwing techniques.
HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL LEARN:
Refining Your Wheel Skills: Focus on consistency and control. Learn techniques for throwing taller cylinders, wider bowls, and working with larger amounts of clay (up to 4 lbs).
Creating Matched Sets: Develop the precision needed to throw identical forms (e.g., mugs, nesting bowls) for practical use.
Lids, Handles, and Spouts: Master attaching functional elements—designing, pulling, and affixing strong handles for mugs and jugs, and creating fitted lids for jars and teapots.
Multi-Step Decoration & Glaze Application: Dive into techniques like carving (sgràffito), resist methods, mishima, and layering multiple glazes for depth and texture.
Troubleshooting & Personal Style: Learn to identify and correct common issues in drying and firing, and begin to develop a cohesive personal aesthetic in your work.
