About this Event
2-hour practical workshop
Many people would love to write a memoir — but feel overwhelmed by the task, don’t know where to begin, or worry they’re “not a writer.”
This workshop offers a simple and accessible alternative: creating a memoir on film through conversation, not pages.
Led by award-winning TV producer and founder of Big Stories Little Films, Danika Armytage, the workshop draws on over 20 years of experience interviewing people for Australian television, and the personal story that sparked her work — filming her own grandmother’s life story.
Participants will learn how professional interviewers help people shape a meaningful life story through spoken memories, and how these techniques can be used at home with nothing more than a smartphone.
The workshop welcomes:
- Adults and Youth who want to record their own life story
- People who feel daunted by writing a traditional memoir
- Family members attending together, where one person may help interview or film
- Anyone wanting to preserve personal history, memories and values for the future
You’ll learn how to:
- Shape a memoir without writing it
- Use conversation and prompts to unlock memories
- Record clear, engaging footage using a smartphone
- Create a lasting keepsake film — either on your own or with family support
Participants are welcome to attend solo or with a family member. No filming or writing experience is required.
