Instructional Assistant I Listening Session

The session will be 1 hour long and will begin and end as a large group. Norms will be outlined as a large group and include the following:

1. Confidentiality: What is shared here stays here.
2. Respect: One person speaks at a time; all perspectives are valid.
3. Active Listening: Facilitators are here to probe deeper without leading participants.

Participants will then be asked to break into small groups with a facilitator. The questions are as follows:

1. What impact do you think turnover or uncertainty has on students and classroom continuity?
2. What barriers have you encountered when trying to grow professionally?
3. When do you feel most respected or trusted in your role?
4. What moments in your work make you feel like, "This is why I do this"?

Everyone will come back as a group and check out by answering the following question with a sticky note.

• If decision-makers truly understood one thing about your work, what would you want it to be?
