Bio:
Gabriela Allemana is a Brazilian-American singer, songwriter, background vocalist, and arranger basedin New York City. A graduate from Oberlin Conservatory, Allemana is now pursuing her Master’s of Music in Jazz Voice at the Juilliard School. Allemana is best known for her engaging story telling, obscure repertoire choices, and blending a soundscape of Brazilian and American influences.
This year, Allemana was named the first place winner of the inaugural Vocal Jazz Summit Competition, granting her a self-curated set at Virginia’s Zeiders American Dream Theater. Allemana was also named a finalist in the 2026 International Ella Fitzgerald Competition. In 2021, Allemana won a YoungArts Silver Prize in Jazz Voice grant. Throughout her career, Allemana has graced the stage with renowned jazz artists such as Gerald Cannon, Therown Brown, Jamey Haddad, Helio Alves, Chico Pinheiro, Camila Meza, and more. She has sung background vocals for artists such as Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Common, Jamila Woods, Bobby McFerrin, and Queen Latifah. The venues Allemana has performed at include Carnegie Hall, The Bop Stop, Winter’s, The Chicago Jazz Festival, Green Room 42, and is now partaking in a series at the Corner Lounge Bistro curated by Samara Joy.
At Oberlin Conservatory, Alleman mainly studied under vocalist La Tanya Hall as well as musical greats Gerald Cannon, Eddie Henderson, and Sullivan Fortner. This fall, Allemana will start her mentorships with Carla Cooke, Charenée Wade, and Kenny Washington.
As an educator at multiple schools across the New York area, Allemana teaches voice, piano, and guitar, with a focus on originality and healthy technique. She is also a dedicated advocate for equity in music, founding the Crimson Collective at Oberlin to uplift artists of marginalized genders through concerts, roundtables, and educational initiatives.
