Hidden in a tiny patch of the sky, no bigger than your thumb, lie thousands of galaxies—each one a living record of its history, written in starlight over billions of years.

Join us for an immersive tour of the local universe as astrophysicist Patricia Fofie explores the stunning variety of galaxies and how they get their shapes, sizes, and colors. Starting with our home galaxy, the Milky Way, we’ll zoom out to the smallest galaxies and then up to the most massive giants, uncovering the cosmic forces that sculpt them.

A PhD candidate at the University of California, Irvine, Fofie uses supercomputers to study how energy from supermassive black holes shapes galaxies like our own over cosmic time. They share their work widely, giving talks at institutions such as the American Museum of Natural History, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, and Humboldt University of Berlin, and are deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of astronomers.
