🎭 This year’s theme: Creatures & Monsters

Explore the creatures around us, the monsters within us, and the strange worlds in between. Movement, music, physical theatre, and film come together in surreal soundscapes, unexpected collaborations, and cinematic dreams.

And of course, our curious RKO junkyard mascots LuneA and Tic return to guide us through the beautiful, bizarre, and wonderfully monstrous world of ISFF 7.0.

👗 Attire: Come dressed to impress! Channel a classic film star, dapper cinema glamour, or embrace this year’s Creatures & Monsters theme for a chance to win LuneAseas swag.

Our Story

Well… it’s more like the “Not-So-Silent Film Festival.”

The Independent Silent Film Festival began during the summer of 2020, when the pandemic brought much of the performing arts industry to a standstill.

Rather than stop creating, LuneAseas found a new way to collaborate.

Dancers, physical performers, filmmakers, and visual artists created short films that could be shared across long distances and placed in the hands of independent musicians and composers, who created original scores inspired by what they saw.

What began as a response to isolation opened an entirely new door for collaboration.

Now in its seventh year, the Independent Silent Film Festival brings together movement artists, filmmakers, musicians, composers, actors, and interdisciplinary creators to explore the relationship between movement, music, storytelling, and cinema.

The festival has supported more than 120 artists from across the United States and internationally, creating new artistic partnerships while providing a platform for independent and Colorado-based artists.

Previous participants include artists from Wonderbound, MOMIX, Pilobolus, Six Degrees Dance NYC, Evolving Doors, Life/Art Dance Ensemble, and independent artists from Colorado, New York, Baltimore, France, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and beyond.

Past collaborators include Pierre Gaiffe, Luca Di Bartolo, Jeremy Speed Schwartz, Yuuki, Anne Gart, Piotr Smolenski, Dave Huemann, Rae McAlister, Cipriano, Astin Lopez, Los Mocochetes, A.M. Pleasure Assassins, David Wohl, Tenia Nelson, Adam Bodine, Cerise Sprague, and many more.

Every year, the experiment continues:

What happens when we give artists from different disciplines a film, an idea, and the freedom to make something new?

Come find out August 30.
