Inclusive Leadership and BC Paddle-ability course: Working with and supporting people with disabilities in the outdoors.This is a 3-day course or you can sign up for individual days.
Day 1: We start with the British Canoe paddle-ability course which includes disability awareness and looking at ways to make your sessions more inclusive. We also play with various pieces of simple kit that can transform paddling in terms of comfort making it more accessible.
Day 2: focuses on adaptive techniques including aiding people with a range of needs (including visual and physical impairments) from arrival at the venue to getting onto the water. We start to cover manual handling on this day too. This day is co-led by an occupational therapist.
Day 3: we finish covering the legalities of manual handling, and spend more time looking at postural support and using hoists.
£86pp for single days or £248 for the 3 days - CPD certified for manual handling over days 2&3.
To certify the BC paddle-ability there is an additional cost of £10.50 for their fees
Just so you know, the course is over a Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. On the Wednesday we will likely go and do some Canoe-rescue practise for our own CPD - in which case others would be welcome.
