Celtic Imbolc begins on the evening before February 1st and marks the half-way point between the seasons of Winter and Spring. Imbolc means “in the belly” and it is a time of “first stirrings” underground, with the promise of Spring to come. This seasonal traditional festival is also Saint Brigid’s Day, a time of blessing and creativity beginning to bud. It is a time to connect with the land, all creation, and our own creativity. Brigid was known for her connection with the land and animals, she was also known for her hospitality and peacemaking leadership. She is associated with healing, poetry, fire and water, and many other aspects of creativity. Come together for this special weekend retreat to connect with Brigid and all she represents.
Spiritual practices will include:
-Contemplation of Brigid through the practices of visio, lectio, and audio divina by gazing at visual artwork, listening to music, reading poetry and experiencing prayers which all center Brigid.
-Embodied prayerful walking, connecting with the land and creation during the seasonal time of Imbolc when the first stirrings of Spring begin
-Spiritual art journaling as a creative way of connecting with and reflecting on all that we are learning about Brigid
-Weaving traditional Saint Brigid crosses
-Observing the one-moment global Pause for Peace on St. Brigid’s Day (initiated by the Irish Brigidine Sisters of Kildare, observed around the globe in honor of St. Brigid and her commitment to peacemaking)
