About this Event

NOTE: iphone and ipad users, to register for class if you don't see a red "tickets" button at right.

What’s on the Menu:

  • Mustard-Braised Chicken with Tarragon
  • Puy Lentil Salad with Roquefort
  • Arugula and Fennel Salad with Lemon-Anchovy Vinaigrette
  • Gâteau au Yaourt (French Yogurt Cake) with Crème Fraîche and Berries

Creamy roquefort cheese. Tart, bright mustards. Bold vinaigrettes. Subtly sweet cakes. These are the French flavors we love at Milk Street. But too often, French dishes lack the contrast and boldness we seek, ending up overly rich and indulgent instead. Join us in-person at Milk Street for a hands-on cooking class where you’ll learn how we handle the particular challenges of classic French cooking. Our menu is based on essential bistro classics, but every dish has been carefully reimagined by the Milk Street team to ensure they come out perfectly even when you don’t have the luxury of sublime produce and cheeses from a French farmers market. That means we’ll be pickling shallots, mixing mustards, poaching garlic, seeking smart dairy substitutions, using strategic cuts of meat and taste-testing almost every ingredient. Whether you’re a die-hard culinary Francophile or have been feeling bewildered by bland French fare, this class is for you.
At this hands-on class, you’ll work in pairs at fully equipped cooking stations with the guidance of your lead instructor. In addition to hands-on cooking, the class will include demonstrations, tasting and discussion. We conclude with a sit-down, family-style meal with complimentary beverages—including our favorite French wines, of course—and dessert. Come with take-home containers: there are usually leftovers!

Other questions? Reach out to us at [email protected] if you don't see an answer to your question in the FAQs below.
Our hands-on cooking classes are capped at 14 attendees. Students work in pairs of two at fully equipped stations. Each attendee requires their own ticket. Please note that Milk Street is not an allergen-free space; if you have a severe allergy, please get in touch before registering to understand if this event is a good fit for you.
