This event is intended for prospective JD students for the University of Miami School of Law. As space is limited, we can only accommodate up to 5 students per class. Also, students are only allowed to attend once per class offering.
This 4-credit traditional Evidence course is concerned with the law of evidence applicable in civil and criminal proceedings in the United States. The focus will be on the Federal Rules of Evidence, which now have been adopted through codification in a large majority of states.
Jeannie Jontiff is the Director of the Litigation Skills Program, faculty advisor for the Yvette Ostolaza Mock Trial Team, and co-director of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Concentration. Professor Jontiff is an experienced litigator awarded an AV Rating by Martindale-Hubbell. She first practiced with Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, LLP, handling the various facets of federal and state court matters in the areas of commercial litigation, securities litigation, intellectual property/unfair competition, contract disputes, replevin and bankruptcy. Subsequently, she joined Jontiff & Jontiff, where her practice focused on personal injury/negligence litigation, while continuing to handle commercial litigation matters, family law matters and many of the firms' appellate matters.
Professor Jontiff is admitted to practice law in Florida and in the United States District Courts for the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Miami School of Law in 1995 where she was the Litigation Skills Program Thomas Ewald Scholar, Spring 1995. In January 2001, she joined the Litigation Skills Program as an Adjunct Professor where she taught in both the pretrial and trial sections. Professor Jontiff joined Miami Law as full-time faculty to direct the Litigation Skills Program in the Fall of 2021.
