In Conversation with Jathan Sadowski: AI, Big Tech and the Politics of Tech
About this Event
Who actually benefits from AI? What are we being sold as inevitable? And what would a healthier relationship with technology look like?
Join us for an in-conversation evening with Dr Jathan Sadowski, drawing on his new book The Mechanic and the Luddite. Jathan reframes the original Luddites not as anti-technology but as skilled workers who knew exactly what was at stake and shows what we can learn from them about AI, data, surveillance and the "smart" tech reshaping our cities and workplaces.
Expect lively storytelling, plain language, and plenty of room for audience Q&A.
Dr Jathan Sadowski is a Senior Lecturer at Monash University's Emerging Technologies Research Lab and co-host of the popular podcast This Machine Kills. His writing appears regularly in The Guardian, Wired and The Conversation. The Mechanic and the Luddite is his second book, following Too Smart.
