In Conversation with Angela Flournoy

We are honoured to welcome National Book Award finalist Angela Flournoy to Chapters for an evening exploring her writing life, from her celebrated debut The Turner House to her much-anticipated second novel, The Wilderness.

The Turner House introduced readers to a sprawling Detroit family and a house that held their history, earning Flournoy comparisons to some of the great American chroniclers of family and place. The Wilderness follows five Black women across twenty years of friendship, ambition, and the strange, unmoored middle stretch between young adulthood and midlife, a novel The Washington Post named one of the ten best books of 2025 and Booklist called "absorbing, uplifting, and poignant."

About Angela: Angela Flournoy is the author of The Turner House, a finalist for the National Book Award and the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize, and The Wilderness, longlisted for the National Book Award and a finalist for the Kirkus Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her fiction has appeared in The Paris Review, and her writing has featured in The New York Times, The New Yorker, and the Los Angeles Times. A graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, she has taught at Iowa, Princeton, Columbia, The New School, and UCLA, and is a faculty member in the low-residency MFA program at Warren Wilson College.
