About this Event
Discover Unexpected Productions' philosophy of improvisation, developed over our 43 years of improvising in Seattle!
You'll learn how to actively listen, to use your own life to create collaborative stories, and you'll work on the fundamental principles of improvisation: what it means to say, "Yes, And", how to tell stories that include everyone in the room, how to stop worrying about failing, and the games and concepts behind what we do on stages around the world!
Under the guidance of one of our best Seattle improv teachers, you will learn to:·
Date and Time: 8 weeks, 8 Wednesdays, Sep 30 to Nov 18, 7:00pm to 9:30pm
Location: 5700 6th Ave S, Suite 119, Seattle, WA, 98108
Age Requirements: 18+
Prerequisites: No Training Necessary, Beginners and Seasoned Performers Are Both Welcome!
Maximum Students: 16
About the Teacher: Thomas Matysik has been performing as an improviser since 2004. He joined Unexpected Productions as an ensemble member and musician in 2021. Prior to moving to Seattle, he performed with and coached various groups as an improviser in Des Moines, Iowa. In Seattle, he has performed regularly in shows like Theatresports, Poe Unexpected, Rocky Horror Improv Show, and A(n Improvised) Christmas Carol as a musician and onstage improviser. Additionally, he coaches high school improv as part of UP’s Hogan Cup program.
His time as a preschool teacher informs his approach as an improv instructor for adults. He believes that all people are inherently creative and capable of creating something great by learning to trust themselves, their scene partners, and the present moment.
Thomas is currently a graduate student in mental health counseling at Antioch University Seattle. While he emphasizes that improv is no substitute for therapy, he loves witnessing how improv can act as a catalyst for positive change in people’s lives.
