Come join us for a unique event at Coreander's Children's Bookshoppe! Meet the talented local illustrator, Francis Vallejo, as he shares his creative process and leads a draw-along. Copies of "Jazz Day" will be on hand and can be signed during the event. Don't miss this chance to connect with a fantastic illustrator in person!
Author Bio:
Francis Vallejo is an award-winning, Detroit native, Mexican-American artist whose works have been exhibited in major national publications, art galleries, and museums. Vallejo earned his Bachelor’s degree from Ringling College of Art + Design and his M.A. from Savannah College of Art + Design. He has since created artworks for a host of notable clients and exhibits. Vallejo’s Jazz Day, written by Roxane Orgill and published by Candlewick Press, was the recipient of the Boston Globe Horn Book award for Best Picture Book. His illustrated book, Anansi Boys, written by Neil Gaiman, and published by The Folio Society, has won Spectrum Gold, the D&AD Pencil, and other awards. He recently received a prestigious 2023 Kresge Visual Arts Fellowship.
He currently serves as Section Lead & Associate Professor of Illustration at the College for Creative Studies.
This is a free event that needs a ticket to hold your place. An adult needs to attend with children ages 8 and under. The program will last approximately 30 minutes and is limited to 12 children and their adult caregiver(s). We ask that if you are unable to attend you return your spot on Eventbrite so that someone else can use it. Please only reserve ONE TICKET PER CHILD. Adults DO NOT need a ticket.
