IIHS Screens- To Die a Frenchman
This September, IIHS Screens returns with ‘To Die a Frenchman’, a film set in the crumbling French neighbourhood of Ville Noir in Pondicherry. The film follows seventy-year-old Monsieur Mounissamy, who continues to celebrate French National Day each year, singing in imperfect French and flying a flag resembling the French tricolour.
As he pursues French citizenship and a small plot of land, his determination to hold on to a history that has long left him behind reveals the complexities of fractured identity, belonging, and the enduring wounds of colonialism.
Join the screening, offline conversation, and audience Q&A with the director, Pankaj Rishi Kumar.
