IDSA Post-Conference Open House: Downtown Long Beach Design District
About this Event
Rather than being created through a top-down master plan, the Design District has grown organically through relationships, collaboration, and a shared commitment to strengthening downtown Long Beach. Designers, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, and community organizations are working together to activate public spaces, reimagine storefronts, support creative businesses, and build a neighborhood where design is part of everyday life.
The afternoon begins at Studio One Eleven with a brief introduction to the Design District, followed by a guided walking tour of three organizations helping shape its future:
- Studio One Eleven’s Urban Lab
- CSULB’s Immersive Design Research Lab (IDRL)
- Intertrend (destinations, including Psychic Temple and the Edison Theatre)
Along the way, we'll offer a firsthand look at how design, culture, and community intersect within a walkable urban district.
The tour concludes with informal networking over no host bar drinks at the Chinese Apothecary-style bar Midnight Oil.
