Iced Coffee Class: Flash Chill a Pour-Over, FiDi NYC
About this Event
It's warming up, and most of what you're drinking these days is already cold. Iced coffee is usually a workaround though: brew it hot, then dump it over ice, and hope the flavor survives the shock. Our Flash Chilled Iced Coffee class in FiDi, NYC, skips that: you brew coffee straight onto ice instead, so it never gets hot enough to lose what made it interesting in the first place.
What you'll do
In this brewing and tasting class, we'll help you dial in your own iced pour-over. You'll see exactly what changes, and taste the difference for yourself. Whether you've never made a pour-over or you've got a home setup and drink cold coffee all summer, you'll leave with what you need to try this yourself. Good one to bring a friend to, or turn into a date.
The coffee
We're brewing two single-origins side by side:
- Our Honduras Santa Lucia Casona Gesha Washed, grown by Fincas Mierisch, is the farm's very first planting of this coffee, going back to 2014. Taste: jasmine, brown sugar, fresh berries, a crisp finish.
- Our Panama Elida Estate Catuai Reserva Natural ASD, from Lamastus Family Estates, is grown high on the cloud-forest slopes of Volcán Barú (multiple Best of Panama wins). Whole cherries ferment in a sealed tank for five days before a 45 to 60 day slow dry, which is what gives it its dark fruit character and sparkling acidity.
You'll leave understanding why the ice ratio matters, not just a recipe to memorize, so you can flash brew any bag you own at home. Plus a 45g bag to take home.
