Sonically Depicting's monthly series of cosy spectral / experimental / psychedelic folk-infused concerts at The Waverley Bar continues with another fab line up for February!IAN HUMBERSTONE
A man with a wildly prolific output, and co-founder of the equally prolific cult label Folklore Tapes, Ian Humberstone has gone by many names, but is celebrating a new album "Midsummer Tideline" coming out under his own. Exploring the eerie and uncanny, his music is deeply informed by the stranger end of folkloric practices, and he has a strong interest in folk rituals. The memory of his live sets will leave a fuzzy tape hiss in your mind...

BETH PORTER
Cellist by trade, southwest Scotland-based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Beth Porter has long been in demand as a session player for folk and pop royalty including Petula Clark, Eliza Carthy, Bellowhead, The Unthanks and Peter Gabriel. She is half of the very in-demand Bookshop Band, recently recording with Pete Townshend and amongst many credits co-composed the soundtrack for 2021 Aardman Animations short film Robin Robin (a favourite of new parents everywhere!) An upcoming EP exploring a new electro-pop direction will be unleashed on the world very soon. This is a rare chance to see Beth in solo form, and not to be missed!

JUDE NORTON-SMITH
Jude Norton-Smith is a non-binary guitarist recasting what folk music means for our times today. Weaving together asymmetrical original material alongside time traveled renditions of traditional songs, Jude’s unique sound touches upon ecology, queerness, and the strange ways of living and being in the 21st century. Often joined by a fun(gal) cohort of like-minded musicians, no two gigs are often the same as Jude’s technicolour folk sound boundlessly bubbles up from below. Their recent EP of fingerpicked guitar is truly divine, evoking all your favourite classic guitarists of the late 1960s/early 1970s British folk revival.
