I Spy With My Little Eye: Scavenger Hunt Hike

This child-friendly hike at Donegal Highlands Nature Preserve will teach Leave No Trace through fun, hands-on activities. Leave No Trace is a land ethic approach to having a low impact on nature. It includes how to care for animals, plants, and each other when we’re outside. On our exploration hike, we’ll find clues to assist us in our scavenger hunt to reveal how we can all practice Leave No Trace.

Tickets must be purchased for each attendee. This event is recommended for ages 4 and up. Participants under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

What to Expect: We’ll cover between 1 and 1.5 miles on old logging roads at Donegal Highlands Nature Preserve, making stops each time we find a scavenger hunt clue that teaches us about Leave No Trace. A bathroom is available across the street at Old Trolley Line Park.

What to Bring: Bring water, snacks, pertinent personal first aid, and sufficient layers. Wear shoes that can get mucky if there’s been recent rain. Optional: binoculars.

Event Leader Bio: Before joining the Interpretive Ranger team in 2022, Kate Prisby partnered with Lancaster Conservancy in riparian buffer work at Climbers Run and building the new trail system at Tucquan Glen & Pyfer Nature Preserves. She also spent six months teaching Leave No Trace in Acadia National Park, and loved sharing how practicing Leave No Trace allows the landscape to reveal our ancestors’ stories dating back hundreds of years.

Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home.

Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event.

Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed, and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded.
