IN-PERSON CAREER EVENT
Our in-person Career Fair and Networking event will occur at The Vue and Clubhouse, 195 Galaxy Blvd, Etobicoke. Connect with organizations that assist internationally educated professionals, take part in a mentorship networking event with OACETT professionals and attend a panel discussion. The event includes light refreshments. Cost to attend is $20.

is a non-profit, self-governing, professional association of over 21,000 members.
OACETT is Ontario's independent certifying body for engineering and applied science technicians and technologists and confers the designations C.Tech. (Certified Technician) and C.E.T. (Certified Engineering Technologist). These designations are recognized across Ontario by employers and other engineering professionals.

Managing Your Pronunciation of English: Understanding and Using Word and Sente
Host: Sylvia Whiteside
Info: English is a stress-timed language while many languages are syllable-timed. This means
that certain vowels in English need to be longer to make you easier to understand. If you
see people concentrating to understand you or you know you are difficult to understand, it is likely partly to do with how you are stressing words. Languages that are syllable-time
include: Asian, Indian and many African languages as well as French and Spanish.
This session will focus on:
• Word Stress. Learn to break down words into syllables and identify the stressed
syllable.
• Sentence Stress. Learn how to identify which words receive the main stress in different types of sentences.
• Some attendees will have an opportunity to try using correct Word and Sentence
Stress with feedback. Bring along some of your personal/professional words and
sentences.
• Intonation. Another important feature of Rhythm. This will be included in the session if there is enough time.

• Stop apologizing or second-guessing your voice
Practice:
• Do a live “project update” in your natural tone and get supportive feedback
• Learn pronunciation/pacing tools that build vocal confidence

builds inner and outer communication confidence, no matter your background.
