Haunted Selves, Collective Wounds: Healing Journalism in Post-Traumatic Contexts
About this Event

This mini-symposium creates an interdisciplinary space for researchers and practitioners in journalism, psychotherapy and other healing-oriented fields to re-examine the human condition in the contemporary world.

Four speakers will share their research into collective experiences of human suffering, alongside the approaches, practices and ethical reflections they have developed in response. By reflecting on how these forms of shared suffering might be brought into view, presenters and audience will explore how innovative forms of storytelling, emerging from the collaboration between journalists and therapists, might contribute to collective restoration, reconciliation and healing.

About the Healing Journalism Project

Supported by Taiwan Global Pathfinders Initiative (Dream Factory Programme) of Ministry of Education of Taiwan, Healing Journalism Project is a six-month independent initiative taking place in the UK from October 2026 to March 2027. It attempts to bring professionals and practitioners in journalism and psychotherapy into dialogue, exploring practical ways to develop a healing-oriented reporting.

Moving beyond the conventional journalistic frameworks (such as investigative journalism, trauma-informed journalism, etc.), Healing Journalism Project delves into the existential dimension of human condition that is often overlooked in contemporary journalism, endeavouring to illuminate the complexities beneath the collective human experience through a “contemplative witnessing” in pursuit of existential-factual truths.
