Hunter Park Public Telescope Night
Saturday, May 23rd - 7:30 to 9:30 PM
!!Please Check our Website Home Page for possible weather related cancellations (clouds, rain, severe weather threats, park closures, etc...)!!
The Astronomy Club of Tulsa in collaboration with the City of Tulsa Parks Department will offer a free public telescope observing night at Hunter Park on Saturday, May 23rd from 7:30 until the park closes. This is a public come-and-go event. The entrance to Hunter Park is located off 91st Street between Yale and Sheridan. Turn into the park and follow the road south to the large elevated concrete labyrinth pad near the playground and picnic shelter. You may want to bring along a lawn chair if you plan to stay the whole evening. Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather if you plan to stay an extended time. The address for your GPS is 5804 E. 91st St, Tulsa, OK 74137.
The event is FREE and OPEN to the PUBLIC but you are welcome to make a donation to help us to continue "Bringing Stars to the Eyes of Tulsa since 1937"
Astronomy Club members will have telescopes set up for our guests to enjoy to views of the Moon, Jupiter, and other objects that are in view this time of year. Jupiter will be high in the sky as well as many other constellation with associated night sky treasures such as star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. You are welcome to browse among the telescopes and visit with our members but please ask first. There will also be some smart telescopes capturing images of other deep sky targets.
If you have a telescope and need help on how to set it up and operate properly, feel free to bring your telescope to the park. Members of the Astronomy Club will be available to give advice on how to use your telescope to enjoy viewing night sky objects. Please come about 30-45 minutes early if you are bringing your own telescope so we can get you started while it is still light enough to see.
Please review the Star Party Etiquette for properly asking to use a telescope! If it is set on a target and you touch it and try to otherwise move or adjust it, it won't be available for use until the owner can correct the issues. PLEASE SUPERVISE YOUR CHILDREN! These instruments are expensive (some very expensive!) if one is damaged from someone running into it and knocking it over.
