Join Kristina Estle, Museum Director of the Underground Railroad Museum, for an engaging and insightful presentation exploring Belmont County’s pivotal role in the fight for freedom. Drawing on years of research and local history, Kristina will illuminate the hidden network of safe houses, courageous conductors, and determined freedom seekers who risked everything to escape slavery.
Through compelling stories, historical artifacts, and newly developed mapping projects, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how Belmont County’s geography, community spirit, and moral conviction made it a vital link in the Underground Railroad. This program not only honors the bravery of those who traveled the path to freedom but also highlights the importance of preserving and sharing this history for future generations.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, educator, or simply curious about the region’s past, this presentation offers a powerful reminder of the resilience, hope, and humanity that shaped our nation.
Come and enjoy our free summer lecture series every Monday of June and July at noon, hosted by the Marshall County Historical Society and the Moundsville-Marshall County Public Library, and sponsored by the EQT Foundation.
