About this Event
What will happen if we combine oral histories with creative nonfiction, then illustrate the new stories with paintings from 13th century Italy or from 20th century Unites States? Perhaps a new way of talking about contemporary Belarus's traumas will arise: traumas for which news media can so easily create emotional distance? Or maybe a new way of dealing with the role of fine arts in our lives and identities? Or a new genre of literary novel? Maybe only a feeling that, from the moment Giotto di Bodnone's "Kiss of Judas" was created, there is nothing new in this world? Victor Martinovich, art historian and fiction writer from Belarus will present his Fulbright research in the form of a talk about recent developments in Belarus.
