Acorns, or oak nuts, have remained an important and nutritious food source for many animals, including humans, around the world, for hundreds of thousands of years. The oak tree has sustained human civilization since its inception in countless ways, and acorns are still abundant, delicious and nutritious. Why have we in the Modern West neglected this truly wonderful superfood? How have we in our modern culture nearly forgotten how to harvest, honor and enjoy this incredible gift?
Learn how to identify, gather, process store, and use acorns in the kitchen. The class will meet at the Amphitheater in Deering Oaks Park. We'll cover identification, collection, storage, processing, cooking, and consumption. There may be some acorn-based snacks available for sampling.
Space in this class is limited. Preregistration is required to reserve a spot in the class. The class will begin promptly at the scheduled time. Please plan accordingly.
