About this Event
In this workshop session, participants will reimagine their streets, learning how to turn blank and grey facades into unique mural artworks. The workshop will help the attendees understand the societal need for distinctive places that truly resonate with the local identity. How we can avoid repetitive urban environments by using creativity to help local communities reconnect and feel proud of their neighbourhood?
After a quick introduction by Global Street Art, Studio PDP will lead a walking tour in the area, explaining strategies for urban realm regeneration and identifying the available walls for installations.
The attendees will then be grouped in teams for our interactive workshop. Guided by a world-class street artist, they’ll each work on reimagining a different wall, using their own creativity.
Post-event, Global Street Art will aim to commission a street artist to paint a mural inspired by the workshop as part of London Mural Festival in September.
The event is co-run by Studio PDP and Global Street Art.
Global Street Art’s mission is to “Live in Painted Cities” by working with talented street artists who create murals for commercial and community initiatives. They believe art has the power to transform places and inspire people. Since 2012 Global Street Street, alongside their network of top established artists and emerging talents, have painted over 12,500 legal walls across the UK and worked in dozens of other countries.
Studio PDP are architects, urban and interior designers. Their project, Low Line Commons was created for Low Line Partners; it is an urban design vision which connects people and nature along the route of the Victorian rail viaducts from Bankside to Bermondsey.
To add legacy to the event, Global Street Art will aim to identify a wall in the area, and commission an artist to paint a mural inspired by the workshop. This will form part of London Mural Festival 2024, which will be taking over London this September. The festival will be one of the world’s biggest celebrations of street art, with over 100 permanent murals gifted free to the public, from some of the best international street artists working today.
