In France in 1934, Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli came together to establish the jazz ensemble known as the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, which became a pioneering and influential group within European jazz circles. Comprising Reinhardt, Grappelli, bassist Louis Vola, and guitarists Roger Chaput and Joseph Reindhardt, this band played a key role in developing the genre of Jazz Manouche (Gypsy Jazz) and helped popularize this style globally. It inspired numerous jazz musicians worldwide to form similar groups under the Hot Club name in their respective cities.
Violinist George Curmi Pusè realized his lifelong dream by creating the unique Hot Club of Valletta, the only group named for our capital city. Specializing in the swing gypsy music of the 1930s and 1940s, the members of this group authentically dress in the style of the era, perfectly complementing the charm of Valletta. Their repertoire consists of both timeless classics from the period and original Maltese swing compositions by local composers of the time. Since its establishment, the group has been extensively active, particularly taking part in various editions of Notte Bianca and performing as the opening act for the group The Other Europeans and for Tommy Emmanuel in Malta.
