The chamber group Horizon is giving a concert of chamber music in the Octagon Chapel, Norwich on 28th June, at 6.30pm.
Horizon are a group of professional musicians, consisting of Anna Hopkins, flute, Susannah Self, mezzo, Michael Christie, cello, and Alexander Wells, piano. They are to present a programme of chamber works by Gershwin, Kern, Ravel and Fauré, plus recent works by Susannah Self and Michael Christie
This programme presents a rare opportunity to hear Ravel’s remarkable and enchanting song cycle ‘Chansons Madécasses’, with some of its exotic elements deriving from the fact that the 18th Century French poet that Ravel sets was himself born on the island of Réunion, off the shores of Madegascar in the Indian Ocean. It is one of Ravel’s most advanced works.
Other pieces include Fauré’s intense ‘Elégie’ for cello and piano, Ravel’s ‘Pavane Pour Une Infante Défunte’, Susannah Self’s ‘King René’s Book of Love’ and ‘Dymock Dreams’, and Michael Christie’s ‘Two Joyce Songs’. Capping it all off are luscious arrangements of Gershwin’s ‘A Foggy Day’ and Kern’s ‘All The Things You Are’, which are certain to delight audiences.
Admission is £15 at the door (debit cards accepted), at the The Octagon Chapel, Colegate, Norwich, England NR3 1BN. Programme begins at 6.30pm.
