Hope in Resonance, A Bharatanatyam & Carnatic Music Performance

Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music become vessels of hope — not as escape, but as a quiet, enduring form of love and resistance.

The performance weaves together dance theatre, poetry, and live sound into a shared act of presence… to listen, to breathe, to hold beauty and pain together. Rooted in the classical tradition, the evening unfolds as a journey through invocation, play, and reflection. Invocations to Ganesha open the space, grounding us in rhythm and reverence. The following pieces turn to Krishna, exploring tenderness, mischief, and the divine intimacy of human emotion. A hymn to Brahma expands this resonance outward towards creation itself, and the performance concludes with an ode to Maye, the Goddess of Illusion, where clarity emerges from veiled perception.

Throughout the performance, light, sound, and stillness meet in conversation. Dance and music become forms of prayer — gestures of solidarity with a fragile world, and affirmations of the luminous, enduring capacity of the human heart to stay open, to live, and to love.

The evening features:

Eva Isolde Balzer (Bharatanatyam) is a Berlin-based Bharatanatyam artist, theatre maker and certified drama therapist whose work bridges classical Indian dancetheatre, contemporary performance and artistic research in the field of healing. For over 20 years, she has created and performed more than 40 productions, including traditional Bharatanatyam recitals, transcultural theatre works and contemporary dance-theatre pieces rooted in the vocabulary and aesthetics of Bharatanatyam.

Manickam Yogeswaran (MusicaL Lead & Mridangam) is a versatile singer and composer. During his childhood and youth, he was exposed to a pristine tradition of temple music, Tamil Isaii and Carnatic music. He had his early music training from “Sangita Bushanam” Thiru P Muthukumarasami and “Sangita Bushanam” Thiru S Balasingam from Sri Lanka. His Guru is the world-renowned musician “Sangita Kalanidhi” “Padmabushan” Sri TV Gopalakrishnan.Yogeswaran’s concerts are marked by a rare blend of virtuosity, creativity and teamwork.

Krithika Koduvayur Chidambaran (Vocals) is a Carnatic vocalist who has performed on All India Radio for the occasion of Krishna Janmashtami under the guidance of M.A. Meera. Currently based in Germany, she is an active member of Aarohanam Germany, an Indian Classical Arts Forum. Through this platform, she regularly performs on various stages, collaborates with fellow musicians, and contributes to organizing events that promote and celebrate Carnatic music.

Apoorva Mohan (Nattuvangam) is a Berlin-based Bharatanatyam artist, choreographer, and professional Nattuvanaar with over 26 years of dedicated training and stage experience. She holds Nritya Bhaskar in Bharatanatyam from Pracheen Kala Kendra, India. An ICCR-empanelled and Doordarshan-graded artist, Apoorva has performed at prestigious arts festivals. As the founder of Apoorva Nrityalaya, she continues to choreograph and direct large-scale Bharatanatyam productions while mentoring students across age groups, contributing significantly to the preservation and propagation of this classical art form internationally.

Dr. Vijay Kannan (Flute) is a Berlin-based Carnatic musician and bamboo flautist whose work blends Indian classical traditions with improvisation, jazz, and world music. He has released multiple albums in his Haunting Bamboo series, featuring meditative raga improvisations on the bamboo flute. A composer and music producer, his work has been featured on the BBC and in independent films and documentaries.
