HooDoo's Kitchen: Rooted in Black
About this Event
ROOTED IN BLACK: Protection + Black Walnut
HooDoo’s Kitchen returns to Savannah State University for its annual gathering, Rooted in Black, an immersive experience centered on Hoodoo, protection, ancestral knowledge, and the cultural traditions of the Black South.
Created and hosted by Daisy Mugford, this year’s HooDoo’s Kitchen features IvoRi of Afro Agriculture, bringing together two perspectives rooted in our relationship with the land.
Inspired by IvoRi’s knowledge and use of Black Walnut as a natural dye, Rooted in Black explores the plant through both agricultural and Hoodoo traditions. Daisy will guide guests through Black Walnut’s significance and traditional uses within Hoodoo, creating a conversation between what grows from the land and the cultural knowledge Black communities have carried with it.
