About this Event
In honour of Moosehide Campaign Day and the nation-wide initiative to address both gender-based violence and colonization, we recognize the need to be processing anger. Whether it's from being impacted by it directly, indirectly, or the fact that it's happening at all.
At Second Wind Counselling, it's important to address what's happening inside our therapy sessions, but also what's happening outside of it. At this point in time, we don't have to look too far to witness the impact of Gender-Based Violence and Colonization. Whether it's the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2 spirited folks, the Epstein Files, the Pelicot trial, or the continuing legacy of the #MeToo movement.
We are calling all of our sisters, mothers, daughters, and all who were socialized to suppress their anger no matter what the cost.
We are calling all of our brothers, fathers, sons, and all who were socialized to never to express their emotions unless it was through anger.
We call on all people who challenge the way we're raised by existing outside of this binary cycle, and the constant backlash that comes from doing so.
In these ways, we are all impacted by Gender-Based Violence and the ways its interrupted our ability to express anger in a healthy way. Let's find a better way forward, together.

Our facilitators, Ben Castro and Emily Anderson, will be holding space for us as Registered Clinical Counsellors and Art Therapists. Between them they have worked extensively in a variety of places including corrections facilities, private therapy clinics, and the downtown eastside. Ben and Emily bring their compassion and enthusiasm to help others without discriminating who the person is, what they've done, and most importantly, how they're feeling. Along the way, Ben and Emily have helped many people learn that it's okay to feel angry and what to do about it in a healthy way.
We welcome you to have space for that, too.
