The origins of Mother's Day in the United States can be traced back to the 1800s. Ann Reeves Jarvis, a homemaker and activist from West Virginia, organized "Mother's Day Work Clubs" to help women care for their children. Julia Ward Howe, a suffragette and poet, called for a "Mother's Peace Day" to promote world peace. We will be showcasing some of the mothers who live at the Benson-Hammond House and raised their rather large families there.
Bring your Mom and share some time together.
