Join us for the Second Homeschool Day of the Year!

For small homeschool groups or individual homeschool families, we offer special Homeschool Days throughout the school year.*
Throughout the day, engage in educational programing focused on history with activities including story time, tours, and workshops. Homeschool Days are special days for homeschool students to experience field trips at the B&O!
Lunch options for Homeschool Day are available at the B&O Café by pre-order or walk-in.
*Pre-registration is required for Homeschool Day and all activities are first come, first serve

Schedule:
"On Your Mark, Get Set, LEGO!” Workshop
Thursday, February 5, 2026 @ 10:30
In this workshop, kids will use their knowledge of motion and engineering design to build a car out of LEGOs. They will get a chance to race against other kids on our racetrack before making any necessary design changes to their cars.
*Recommended for ages 1+

“Signs and Signals: The Evolution of Visual Communication on the Railroad” Tour
Thursday, February 5, 2026 @ 10:30
This tour will explore the history of signs and signals on the railroad from its inception 200 years ago to present day with hands-on learning opportunity. The importance of having signaling devices on the railroad and how they keep community members safe will also be explored.

“Carbon Cycle” Workshop
Thursday, February 5, 2025 @ 2:00 pm
In this workshop, kids will assume the role of an atom of carbon and travel through the life cycle of that atom of carbon, producing a take-home memento along the way, to understand the effects that carbon has on our environment.
*Recommended for ages 3+

“From Slavery to Civil Rights: The African American Railroading Legacy” Tour
Thursday, February 5, 2026 @ 2:30 pm
On this tour, we will delve into the storied history of African Americans on the railroad. Using our collection of historic train cars including a Civil War Era steam engine and a Jim Crow Era segregated passenger car, we will reflect on the history of African American railroading over the past 200 years.
