About this Event

In this workshop with John Davies and Rob Swinney of the Initiative for Interstellar Studies, maths, science and engineering come together to show how humankind can reach the outer solar system and travel beyond that to the stars.

Using the work of three great thinkers, Al-Khwarizmi, Newton and Tsiolkovsky, participants will use scientific and mathematical concepts to work out all manner of things from how fast a skateboard travels to and practical results with rocket balloons, to how long it will take to fly to distant stars.

A truly astronomical day!

For young people who have just completed Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 this term - please book based on their current/most recent school year, not their new year group from September. This typically corresponds to children aged around 14-18 years old. We reserve the right to refund or deny entry to those who are not in the correct year group.

Refunds can only be issued for tickets cancelled at least two weeks (14 calendar days) in advance of the event date. Please note that this supersedes our normal event terms and conditions.
