About this Event
About Holi: Holi is a Spring festival in India, which symbolizes the triumph of good over evil, and the celebration of love and new beginnings through playful revelry and the breaking down of social barriers. In recent years, it has become very popular in Europe and North America and is widely celebrated in Universities, and several mainstream events in the form of “Color Run”.Our festival is held in an outdoor carnival atmosphere comprising freshly cooked vegetarian food onsite, a variety of clothing & jewelry vendors and other businesses, music, dance, stage performances culminating in skin-safe color powder applied to friends, family and loved ones. A team of more than 55 students drawn from Beta Clubs of our community’s high-schools shoulder organizational responsibilities at the festival in exchange for earning volunteer hours.
About our Organization: The Louisville Hindi Paathshaala is a Section 501 (c)(3) non-profit school, established with the aim of teaching Hindi language. Hindi is the national language of India, and the fourth most widely spoken language in the world along with English, Spanish and Mandarin. Our school is run by a group of 20 passionate volunteer teachers, who conduct classes every Friday evening at Zachary Taylor Elementary School, a JCPS school, to teach Hindi to a mix of 99 students, including Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Caucasians and East Asians, of ages between 6 and 45, who are drawn from across the Louisville Diaspora.
