Join Old Town's Job Carr Cabin Museum historians for a conversation that brings this history to life through the lens of one family.
Matriarch Rebecca Carr Staley and her daughters Marietta and Margaret were among Old Town's earliest non-native settlers, arriving between 1865 and 1885. Jane Bradley Carr married into the family in 1872.
The women who settled Grit City were resolute, fascinating, and pivotal in shaping industry, community, and culture. Through their stories of independence, adventure, reinvention, and resilience, we gain a deeper understanding of the opportunities and challenges experienced by the women who made Tacoma home in the last half of the 19th century and the legacy they left behind.
