Beginning in the late 1800s, this fascinating presentation traces the pivotal moments that shaped the city of Tacoma, the Port of Tacoma, and the broader Puget Sound for more than a century. Enjoy historic photos and rare film footage as you discover how the Port was established and grew into a leading world class container gateway.
ABOUT ROD KOON
Rod joined the Port of Tacoma in 1983 as its first communications manager. Over his 38-year career, he held a variety of communications, marketing, and public relations roles before retiring in 2021. His knowledge and passion for sharing the Port’s story inspired him to research and write a history of the Port of Tacoma, published in 2023. A Tacoma native, Rod has been recognized for his leadership and community contributions by the Tacoma Propeller Club, the Transportation Club of Tacoma, Tacoma Sunrise Rotary and the City of Tacoma.
