Join us for our next History in a Pint when Executive Director and Historian Wayne Gannaway will present “The Art of Soldiering: Servicemembers, Satire, and Cartoons.”What is daily life for an enlisted service member really like? It rarely matches recruitment posters or SOP manuals. From World War I to the Global War on Terror, enlisted service members have captured the realities of military life through cartoons shared with comrades, family members, and the public. Wayne will present classic Stars and Stripes cartoons by Bill Mauldin, Vietnam War–era cartooning, and contemporary digital cartoons by today’s service members, including work by two World War II service members from the Iron Range.
Explore the unique, often humorous, and deeply personal world of military life through the lens of those who lived it.
Cost: FREE. 5:30PM at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in the Duluth Depot.
