About this Event
The goal of this one-day program for kids in grades 2 through 6 is to ignite a love of history in children, bring young people into our museum sites, and spark friendships amongst the children. We hope to offer three or four History Hunter programs this year, each with a different theme. For this first program, our theme will be America 250 and early Delaware County. Led by retired educators, the day will include music, dance, storytelling, corn grinding, tin smithing, calligraphy, and more.
After we have welcomes, introductions, and an ice breaker, we will visit the Native American display at Meeker to talk about Prehistoric and Historic Indians in our county. We will play drums, and rattles during a Native American inspire and d dance call and response song. We’ll try our hand at corn-grinding.
After lunch we will play a variety of Native American and pioneer games.
In the afternoon we will explore the lifestyle of early European settlers. We will listen to a story of the Penry boys, try writing with quill pens and on slates, practice tin smithing and more.
We need a minimum of 5 attendees in order to hold this event.
Please check that the e-mail address Eventbrite has for you is one you still use. That's the email address we'll use to communicate. You can reach us anytime at [email protected].
