The Museum of the Albemarle will host our monthly History for Lunch on Wednesday, Apr. 1 at 12 p.m. in the Gaither Auditorium. The Museum of the Albemarle, a part of the Division of State History Museums, Office of Archives and History, is an agency of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
Enjoy Julianne Laird and Richard Workman of J. R. Shanty Co. as they present sea shanties, songs of the sea, and historical songs of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Their repertoire includes folk songs and original compositions about local legends and historical figures, including Betsy Dowdy, Theodosia Burr Alston, Nell Cropsey, the Wright Brothers, Virginia Dare, Edward Teach, Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Life-saving Station Crew, and the Midgett family of the Chicamacomico Life-saving Station Crew. Accompanying themselves on cello and guitar, their stories and songs are filled with musical excellence, attention to historical detail, and humor.
The Museum will offer the History for Lunch program in-person only. Registration is not required.
