Saturday, 1/31 1-4pm, Chestnut St Plaza A wintertime Ice Cream Social has taken place in Stillwater, Minnesota dating back to the early 1950’s. Gil Larson the owner of Snowland Dairies started it all at the Boom Site north of town. According to Brent Peterson of the Washington County Historical Society, the first year it was 29 degrees below zero and still 600 people showed up. Larson told a St. Paul newspaper reporter, "we’re plenty hardy around here."
Over the years the event has moved all around the Valley. Lowell Park, Lily Lake Park, and even the St Croix Mall have all hosted the event.
Leo’s and Gloria’s Soft Serve will continue the tradition on Chestnut Street Plaza Saturday 1/31, 1-4pm. It’s a great chance to see your friends and neighbors and "thumb your nose at old man Winter". FREE Ice Cream, Fire Tables, Music, and Historical Photos. Gluten Free and Dairy Free options will be available.
Get dressed up in a wolf costume, or take the convertible out for a mid-Winter spin around the block. Bathing suits are optional, yet encouraged. 😊 Hope to see you there.
