Learn an ancient historic netting technique using natural fibres to make a bag or hairnet. Materials included. Suitable for adult beginnersAbout this Event
Learn how to make your choice of:
- a hand-knotted hairnet, particularly suitable for Medieval or Victorian period, costumed interpreters and re-enactors who wish to increase their level of historic accuracy beyond the level of the crocheted alternative favoured by many. Originals would have been made from silk thread. We will be using cotton perle, a user-friendly thread which gives a similar experience to netting in silk and an excellent springboard should you wish to use silk in the future.
- a larger net bag in linen/hemp yarn, or smaller Regency-style reticule in cotton perle suitable for further decorative techniques such as embroidery. Particularly for those interested in the Georgian period or simply a general textile enthusiast.
The workshop includes materials, and inexpensive netting tools available on the day can also be purchased to take away
